Perhaps spending a couple of years at Her Majesty’s Pleasure has a certain impact but it seems that history isn’t a strength of David Martindale.

The Livingston boss has had plenty to say for himself before and after passing the so-called Fit and Proper test that the SFA applies to former convicts. In 2006 Martindale was jailed for six and a half years for supplying cocaine, at the time he was described as a student at Herriot Watt University.

As most football fans know in 2012 the old Rangers club were unable to secure a CVA with 276 creditors led by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. The club was put into liquidation with star players such as Kyle Lafferty, Allan McGregor and Steven Naismith leaving as free agents.

Buying up Ibrox and Murray Park for a knockdown price Charles Green formed a new club which was eventually given membership of the SFA and Scottish League, playing their first match away to Brechin City in the Challenge Cup on 29 July 2012.

Livingston have had more than a few financial difficulties since they took over Meadowbank Thistle who joined the Scottish League in 1974.

In 2009 and in 2004 Livingston were put into administration but on both occasions they were able to come up with CVA’s to satisfy their creditors.
