Celtic have again been linked with a move for Aaron Hickey- this time in a list of potential signings apparently presented to Eddie Howe.

The defender left Celtic for Hearts in the summer of 2018. Since making his debut in April 2019 he has almost constantly been linked with a return to Celtic where the left-back position hasn’t been filled since the transfer of Kieran Tierney.

Last August, shortly before Hickey was transferred to Bologna, Craig Levein claimed that Celtic had made five or six offers for their former Academy player.

Introducing their story with ‘18-year-old Hickey — now with Bologna in Italy — would cost upwards of £4m’ The Sun claims:

The Parkhead side were thwarted in attempts to land Hickey 12 months ago. The left-back opted for a £1.5m move to Serie A when he left Tynecastle.

Should Celtic spend £4m on Aaron Hickey?

Despite a depressed transfer market it seems that Hickey’s value has increased by £2.5m on the back of 10 appearances in Serie A, the last of which was on March 20 away to Crotone.

This season Greg Taylor and Diego Laxalt have competed for the left-back role with Adam Montgomery making his debut in the 4-0 win over St Johnstone on Wednesday.
