Police Scotland have set themselves up for a weekend stand-off with the Union Bears over plans for an illegal procession and gathering in George Square.

The extreme right-wing Ultra Group have announced their plans starting with a gathering on Saturday outside of Ibrox Stadium followed by a march to George Square while the rest of Scotland remains in an advanced state of Lockdown with numerous restrictions.

At the start of March it seemed Police Scotland were working in tandem with Ibrox fans as they escorted them into the city centre, standing back as multiple crimes were committed with Police Horses noted by their absence.

Afterwards it was announced that 27 arrests were made from thousands of fans in George Square with 35 Police Officers having to take time off to self-isolate. The Police in-action was heavily criticised by politicians who then opted to do nothing.

Similar gatherings are expected this weekend, in a statement published by Planet Radio, Police Scotland warn:

Ahead of the match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday, 15 May 2021, an appropriate policing plan is in place to maintain public safety and minimise any disruption to the community.

Under the current restrictions no-one should be gathering in numbers of more than six at the stadium or any other location and Police Scotland supports the club in urging its fans to do the right thing and follow the coronavirus regulations around gatherings.

We will continue to liaise with our partners, including the Scottish Government, to ensure these matches can be completed safely and to minimise the risk to both our officers and the public.

The sacrifices people have made have allowed for further easing of regulations, however, we continue to ask people to take personal responsibility and to use Greater Glasgow safely and respectfully.

Union Bears have been given access to Ibrox during Lockdown where their ‘artwork’ has been on display.
