With less than a month to go until the Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland Celtic have still to make their first signing of the transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou is expected at Lennoxtown later this week to get hands on with what is expected to be a massive rebuilding job.
The new manager has phoned Leigh Griffiths with a face-to-face meeting planned this week but addressing the goalkeeping and striking positions will be among the priority issues for the former Australian international boss.
One option that seems to be getting a lot of consideration is Charlie Wyke of Sunderland. In the final season of his three year deal at the Stadium of Light the 28-year-old scored 25 goals from 40 appearances in League One.
It is a record that is comparable with Ivan Tonev (24 goals in 32 matches) the previous season, the transfer of the striker to Brentford while Celtic signed Albian Ajeti will forever remain one of the ‘what if’ moments of last season.
Wyke’s stats are impressive but he doesn’t seem to have made the same impact on Sunderland fans. Quite a few comments suggested that Aiden McGeady was the source of many of those goals, one fan claimed that Ross Stewart, signed in January from Ross County, was a better prospect.
Celtic play their first pre-season match on July 7, against Sheffield Wednesday some parts of the Postecoglou jigsaw should start to fall in place.
Wyke was first linked to Celtic by Mark Wilson during a podcast.
A SAFC ST holder m8 said his goals were down to McGeady. He said Ross Stewart is much better player and that Wykes nowhete near good enough for Celtic. They wouldnt be upset if he left, not quick, not physical….not for me.

Watched him about 10-15 times over the last 2 seasons . He is on a par with bayo , simply not good enough for what we need . Shouldn’t be looking at him at all . Who’s picking these players out ??? Can’t be big Ange . Whoever it is , wants to start picking better players

He can head a ball and that’s it. It would be football like Newcastle with Andy Carroll upfront. One dimensional mince

I hope he leaves us but you don’t want him, he’s shocking. He won’t ever score 30 goals again after only 11 goals in 2 seasons previously. He only got them because McGeady put them on a plate for him, but his 1st touch is a pass and his 2nd is a tackle.

He is ideal for the board, free, and has previously played for Sunday League teams. By no means is it classy enough for a Celtic

Ivan Toney came from playing in league one with Peterborough look at him now top goal goalscorer in championship last season don’t judge a player because of the league they play in 30 goals last season is no joke
