With less than a month to go until the Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland Celtic have still to make their first signing of the transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou is expected at Lennoxtown later this week to get hands on with what is expected to be a massive rebuilding job.

The new manager has phoned Leigh Griffiths with a face-to-face meeting planned this week but addressing the goalkeeping and striking positions will be among the priority issues for the former Australian international boss.

One option that seems to be getting a lot of consideration is Charlie Wyke of Sunderland. In the final season of his three year deal at the Stadium of Light the 28-year-old scored 25 goals from 40 appearances in League One.

It is a record that is comparable with Ivan Tonev (24 goals in 32 matches) the previous season, the transfer of the striker to Brentford while Celtic signed Albian Ajeti will forever remain one of the ‘what if’ moments of last season.

Wyke’s stats are impressive but he doesn’t seem to have made the same impact on Sunderland fans. Quite a few comments suggested that Aiden McGeady was the source of many of those goals, one fan claimed that Ross Stewart, signed in January from Ross County, was a better prospect.

Celtic play their first pre-season match on July 7, against Sheffield Wednesday some parts of the Postecoglou jigsaw should start to fall in place.

Wyke was first linked to Celtic by Mark Wilson during a podcast.
