The Daily Record has gone to town on tweets by St Mirren chairman John Needham- while keeping quiet about their own investigation into tweets from their own staff.

The struggling Glasgow based publisher opened a can of worms when they went prying into the Twitter accounts of contributors to the Heart & Hand podcast who are among Sevco’s approved media partners.

That action prompted retaliation from Ibrox fans who found some very non PC content among the tweets of Record reporters including sports writers.

Ironically, Reach Group, owners of the Record tweeted about investigating their own employers but now the Record are back on the trail of historic tweets as they flip back towards their traditional love-in with Ibrox fans

Covering the tweets of the new St Mirren chairman, the Record reports:

The tweets have brought commendation from anti-sectarianism campaigners Nil By Mouth while the SFA have launched a probe which could see Needham handed a substantial fine.

But Record Sport can reveal the former bank executive is also facing dissent from inside his own boardroom.

Kids charity Kibble – who hold a 27 per cent stake in the club and are represented by two directors – have now issued a statement making clear they want nothing to do with Needham’s controversial comments.

And we can reveal they spelled that out to Saints chairman during weekend crisis talks called after his posts were shared widely online.

A spokesperson for Kibble said: “We wish to completely disassociate ourselves from these very ill-considered and unacceptable comments. These views were made known to St Mirren board members over the weekend.”

Today the Record will be reporting on Steven Gerrard’s media conference where Heart & Hand are asking the softball questions.

The Record has avoided covering the content of Ibrox PR chief David Graham when he was a regular contributor to Heart & Hand podcasts.

Condemnation from NilByMouth? So it’s only not racism when it’s about those of Irish Catholic heritage? Shower of pathetic hypocrites, just like the Record.
