Ian Bankier has admitted that he is concerned about Nick Walsh refereeing Saturday’s League Cup semi-final against.

The Celtic chairman was under fire from shareholders over a variety of issues at today’s AGM where he was the main focus of questioning rather than Peter Lawwell.

One subject that Celtic fans have been increasingly concerned about has been the standard of refereeing with some bizarre patterns and repeat appointments.

Despite using 16 referees in Premiership fixtures this season Bobby Madden was in charge of three of Celtic’s first 12 SPFL fixtures.

Similarly, less than a month after Nick Walsh took charge of the Premiership match against St Johnstone the same referee will be in the middle at Hampden when the two teams clash in the semi-final of the Premier Sports (League) Cup.

Covering the issue at today’s Celtic AGM, the Daily Record reports:

Bankier was put on the spot by a shareholder who highlighted an incident involving Cameron Carter-Vickers during a recent win over St Johnstone.

He clashed with Chris Kane and plenty of Celtic fans believed the Saints striker should have been sent off following the incident. Referee Nick Walsh chose not to dismiss Kane and booked Carter-Vickers.

The same official has now been appointed to oversee Saturday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final clash with the Perth side.

Bankier agreed that he was concerned by Walsh being appointed and that there remains regular dialogue between Celtic and the SFA. However, asked what he was going to do about it, the chairman replied: “We don’t run the SFA.”

The vote to reappoint Bankier as chairman wasn’t supported by a show of hands in the room but the proxy votes have him an overwhelming majority.

Walsh is an ODIOUS LITTLE PRICK!! Employed by the FILTH, we need at least a 3 goal lead before this Wankstain makes an HONEST MISTAKE!!

  • Frankie Pearson says:

The faster var is introduced in Scotland the better at least Celtic will have a more honest chance instead of one cheat in black waving 100% claims aside.

    • Seppington says:

I used to have hopes for the same thing but if you think about it…

It’s the same “cheat in black” who’ll look at the VAR footage and only give us the decision if he thinks the footage cannot be interpreted in any other way, as if he gives against us it will be obvious to all he is corrupt. If he can see any hint of ambiguity at all it’s “F the Feenyins” and decision awarded to Celtic’s opponents.
Ditto the filth in reverse. If there’s ambiguity then it’s “Free Kick/Penalty/Goal to Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrangers!” and “F every other bugger!”.

So Bankier, put on the spot regarding MIB Walsh admitted to having concerns about his allocation for the Hampdump game says that there are regular communications regarding this issue and closed by saying we don’t run the SFA.

FFS,every season going back as far as I can remember these discussions have been ongoing. Is Bankier that thick he can’t take a hint or does he think we are the ones who are thick and will just shrug our shoulders and quietly move to the back of the bus.

No chance, not any more. He should be phoning the SFA and stating point blank that Walsh Beaton Madden and the rest of the cheating Hun refs WILL NOT be admitted to Parkhead, ever. If SFA threaten punishment then tell them to stuff it and take the Case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Enough is Enough. Another year of bent refs stealing the Huns to a desperately needed title is not on. This cheating must be called out. It is corruption.

Even from a business perspective it is against the interests of the shareholders, the many small stakeholders, not the few large ones maybe but in the number of individuals being affected, yes it is anti competitive. The rules are being ignored and subverted.

The Board also have a duty of care to the players as their employer. They need to start protecting the players from all the hammerthrowers in the Scottish game. So we should be bombarding the Celtic Board and the SFA an TELL them, not politely ask, it has to stop. And for as long as they dither and daly we just then start bombarding EUFA with videos of all the transgressions and keep sending them and keep sending them and keep sending them until they act.

Get the Green Brigade to come up with apposite banners at every game, especially the televised ones. Just stop accepting it, that’s how the Board has got away with it so long. No More. Just keep putting the pressure back on them.

Well said mate but thats the difference the celtic board are full of cowards they see our players getting kicked punched every other week and stay silent that board are full of tory rats who let 10inarow slip away to save the blue pounds thats afact its the fans who must react and get that board to fuck out of paradise honest.

  • DJ says:

Keep the protest away from the games . We need every Celtic supporter supporting team from before the first whistle on to after the final whistle . If the Hamden H.ns appoint one of their elite referees for our next game , we should visit their house . After their cheating cnut cheats us at game , we should have a large crowd at their house the next night .
These refs are Rangers2012 supporters & cannot referee fair as they see match through h.ns eyes

  • Saulgoodman says:

This board are not fit for purpose – can’t hold on to a fine manager- can’t sack a poor one ie lennon – their hearts not it , what do we do – boycott mass demos – does double d actually exist or is he a amatuer golfer – i stopped pumping money into them after lockdown because they are not fit + proper – time to turn up the heat on the custodians of my great club

  • Bob (original) says:

Remember the “Referees’ Summit” – when the SFA convened a meeting with SPL managers and Refs in Perth – to address growing criticism of the standard of officiating?

That was in January 2019, almost 3 years ago.

No minutes were publicised, and nothing happened.

I don’t remember my club complaining about the inaction either…

  • Stevie mceachran says:

Weve been getting cheated for years by referees from the days of tiny wharton until now it,s the corrupt country we live in the knuckle crunchers and knuckle draggers who think they are the people . The sfa & spfl are riddled with them and our board are scared to question their appointments . The sooner desmond gets off the golf course and actually attends a celtic game the better
