Harry Redknapp isn’t angling for the job of managing Celtic.
The former West Ham boss attended the Edinburgh Derby in the company of Peter Lawwell.
Having appointed or promoted absolutely everyone at Celtic, including Michael Nicholson, it wasn’t ridiculous to put two and two together.
Would appointing Redknapp as manager be any worse than bringing in Wilfried Nancy, Paul Tisdale or Mark Lawwell?
Celtic are famed for lazy appointments.
Lawwell twice promoted Neil Lennon from Caretaker to permanent manager. The second time being in the Hampden showers with a batch of unopened CVs in a cabinet at Celtic Park.
Earlier this season Chairman Lawwell watched the undermining of Brendan Rodgers from within Celtic Park.
He was delighted by the appointment of Nancy but not enough to sit alongside the Frenchman at a media conference.
Four months on from sacking Nancy there is no sign of his successor.
The 26/27 season starts in August, Celtic could be involved in UEFA qualifiers in July.
Speaking to The Sun, Redknapp was quick to deny that he is being lined up as the next Celtic manager:
No, no. Listen, it’s an amazing club and a great job, but if Martin isn’t going to get the job, then they’re not going to be bringing in someone OLDER than him, that’s for sure!
Discussing his Easter Road visit Redknapp explained:
I got invited up by my good friend Malcolm, who’s been a prominent figure for Hibs over the years.
We had lunch with Malky Mackay and Peter Lawwell. It was the first time I’d met Peter and he’s a nice man.
I loved the atmosphere at Easter Road. It’s a lovely stadium and I had a good day out.
Hibs looked to be in a great position and then suddenly they’re down to nine men and it’s backs to the wall. That was a big win for Hearts.
Lawwell hasn’t been pictured at Celtic Park since resigning as Chairman at the end of December.
His decision to step down came soon after his failure to chair the 2025.
Including a 30 minute adjournment the AGM lasted under an hour.
Lawwell invited Ross Desmond to the podium to trash supporters, referring to some fans as being anti-establishment. That phrase is a badge of honour for many Celtic fans.
Shortly before abandoning the AGM Lawwell yelled BEHAVE at shareholders. Clearly dissent was never something that he tolerated in over 20 years as CEO and Chairman.
Brian Wilson ha taken on the role of Celtic’s interim Chairman. CEO Nicholson hasn’t made any public comment in 2026.

Our already questionable transfer market strategy would be a joy to behold under the crafty cockney wheeler-dealer!
For amusement I can highly recommend anyone look up the story about Harry Redknapp meeting a teenage Kenny Dalglish when he was down at West Ham on trial before signing for Celtic…. It’s very funny and ends with It emerging that Mrs Redknapp had always believed Kenny was a scouser!
