Scott McDermott is in the pits of despair. As are most of his Daily Record colleagues.
McDermott was at Ibrox on Sunday as Motherwell handed out a footballing lesson to Danny Rohl.
Less than a week ago the German Genius was driving his tank all over the Scottish game.
Aberdeen and Dundee United that conceded four goals at Ibrox. Falkirk lost six goals, five in the second half.
What could possibly go wrong?
While Celtic were labouring to a Scottish Cup win over St Mirren James Tavernier and the lads were enjoying some additional team bonding in Marbella.
Another sign of Rohl’s genius.
For five months Rohl has got by simply for not being Russell Martin. Everything was wonderful. As a bonus he wore brogues, a club blazer and tie. Walter might have approved, maybe even Jimmy Bell.
Micky Beale and Phil Clement paid the price for installing hope in the loyal bears. Only to fall short when the media had preparations in place for their title winning pull outs.
DESPAIR AT THE RECORD
Sunday’s defeat from Motherwell was a hammer blow for Ibrox fans.
McDermott has been delving deep into it Sunday’s defeat. And accused Rohl of a 40 year low- covering both clubs out of Ibrox.
After an appearance on last night’s Record Hotline McDermott let go of his frustrations:
After Motherwell’s victory at Ibrox on Sunday, it might not be a bad idea for those of a Rangers’ persuasion to give what they witnessed some more serious thought.
Not least the manager, Danny Rohl.
The 3-2 defeat itself was damaging enough. And in the immediate aftermath, the headline – quite rightly – was the hammer blow to the club’s title bid. It was a dagger through the hearts of Rangers fans.
When Blair Spittal then hit a late winner in the Edinburgh derby, the blade was twisted for maximum effect.
Rangers’ hopes of becoming champions have now been hugely diminished and it’s difficult to see how they will finish on top.
Not for the first time, it appears they will fall short before the prizes are handed out.
When it gets to crunch time, they’ve too often failed to deliver. These punters have been here before, of course.
But incredibly, that wasn’t my biggest takeaway from Ibrox on Sunday.
What really hit home was something that should worry Rohl and the fans even more.
For the fourth time this season, Motherwell has been the superior side in their games against Rangers.
In the last 40 years, can you EVER remember that happening before?
McDermott claimed that Motherwell could have been 4-0 up at half-time.
It seems that the £30m rated duo of Nicky Raskin and Manny Fernandez had no answer to the collection of waifs and strays assembled by Motherwell.
If Rohl fails to win away to Hearts on Monday he might soon be looking for family reasons to return to Germany.
And after Tynecastle Rohl takes his side to Celtic Park. Wilfried Nancy won’t be in the home dug out with a strong chance that there will be no away fans shouting their poison and bile.
