Neil McCann has held tentative talks about joining Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s management team at Ibrox.

The former Sky Sports pundit had a bad-tempered spell in charge of Dundee before getting the sack in October 2018 with a record of 22 wins, 9 draws and 34 defeats.

Last season he had a brief spell as caretaker manager at Inverness Caley Thistle and is now involved with the StormSport agency in-between media commitments.

Steven Gerrard took five coaches with him to Aston Villa, so far there has been no confirmation of who will be working with van Bronckhorst.

Under the banner EXCLUSIVE! The Sun reports:

NEIL McCANN could be set for a sensational Rangers return as part of new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s backroom team.

As SunSport’s exclusive picture shows, the Dutchman has finally touched down in Glasgow, signalling the dawn of a new era at Ibrox.

Ex-Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay is set to join him, with Van Bronckhorst’s trusted No?2 at Feyenoord Jean-Paul van Gastel also expected to follow. Now we can reveal there could also be a place for McCann.

A highly-respected coach in his own right, the former Light Blues winger has impressed with his in-depth analysis and knowledge while working for Rangers TV.

Tentative talks are understood to have taken place with the ex-Dundee and Inverness Caley boss, who would jump at the chance to team up with close pal Van Bronckhorst in the dugout.

Dave McCallum and Jermain Defoe will be in charge of the team at Hampden tomorrow against Hibs. Van Bronckhorst is due to take charge on Tuesday with his first match at home to Sparta Prague on Thursday, quickly followed by trips to Livingston and Hibs.
