Kris Boyd has been marked absent as Ibrox legends mourn the sudden departure of Mister Gerrard for Aston Villa.
The former Kilmarnock striker has been the grinning face of Sky’s coverage of Scottish football, sharing his wit and wisdom with Jeff, Merse and the lads on Sky Sports News as he reports on the latest happenings up north.
This season Boydy has had a few jolts, much like his former club as fans and reality return after the freaky nature of the 2020/21 season.
Malmo knocked a king-sized grin off Boyd’s face when their 10 men stunned Ibrox to repeat their 2-1 first leg victory to send Gerrard’s mob out of the Champions League. Today’s exit can probably be traced back to that wonderful August night.
That Ibrox defeat came on the back of losing 1-0 to Dundee United at Tannadice, the signs were starting to emerge and not just on Boyd’s face.
A last minute equaliser for Hearts at Ibrox was soon followed by a diving header from Scott Brown. None of those events will have hurt Boyd as much as seeing Gerrard in a Villa trackie, while taking a look at the fixture list facing his replacement.
Stuart McCall and Kenny Miller were sharing their grief with Sky Sports News, Gordon Duncan of Radio Clyde was on location at Ibrox but by mid-afternoon Boydy hadn’t shared his views with an eager audience.
