Celtic’s first team squad won’t be flying off to a winter training camp.

Last season’s trip to Dubai turned out to be a complete disaster but in previous years it had been credited with giving the squad a lift before entering a critical phase of the season.

Portugal had been suggested as a closer-to-home sunny option but with so much uncertainty over the virus, testing and travel Ange Postecoglou has decided that it is best to spend the break on home turf.

Covering the issue with the Celtic boss, The Sun reports:

Asked if he’d ruled out a foreign training camp, he said: “Yeah. I just think we will do our work here. It makes sense. We have to use our time wisely and we don’t want to put unnecessary risk on our players, or the club.

“It’s valuable time we have to get the team up and ready for the second part of the year. I think it makes sense to stay here.”

After Sunday’s match at St Johnstone the hoops will enjoy a short break with the next match scheduled to be at home to Hibs on Monday January 17 followed by a Scottish Cup tie away to Alloa Athletic five days later.

Whether crowds will be allowed to watch the Hibs match remains to be seen with that decision in the hands of the Scottish Government.
