Celtic have been credited with an interest in Spurs youngster Dilan Markanday.

The 20-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season which is certain to put dozens of clubs on alert about his potential availability.

Spurs have a fairly well-established loan network to develop players but as Cameron Carter-Vickers has discovered that route can be never ending with the Celtic the seventh club he has been loaned to since 2017.

The Evening Standard reports:

Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers are battling it out to sign Tottenham youngster Dilan Markanday, who is also attracting interest from a host of Championship clubs.

Markanday, who made his senior Spurs debut in the Europa Conference League game against Vitesse Arnhem in October, is out of contract in the summer and the club want him to sign a new deal and go out on loan, though a permanent exit cannot be ruled out.

The 20-year-old winger, who is Spurs’ first British Asian player, is also wanted by a number of leading Championship clubs, including Bournemouth, West Brom and QPR.

Celtic would only have to pay a fee set by UEFA based on age and how long Markanday has been trained by Spurs, a different formula applies to English clubs.

This route has been used by Celtic in recent years with Luca Connell, Kundai Benyu, Liam Shaw and Armstrong Oko-Flex signed in similar circumstances from English sides.

At the age of 20 Markanday would be too old to play in the Lowland League should Celtic be involved in that level again next season.
