Setting the record straight for Paul McGinn over cheap Celtic jibes

In the immediate aftermath of a defeat emotions run high, especially when it comes in a cup final.

The circumstances were particularly cruel on Hibs, going in front with their first sighting of goal they were pegged back to level terms just 14 seconds after Celtic restarted.

After stabilising for 20 minutes the winning goal will be remembered for the brilliance of Kyogo and Tom Rogic’s defence splitting pass but it was also a catalogue of errors from Hibs.

Arguing over a free kick 10 yards inside your opponents half is almost the definition of straw clutching, fouls like that are given in every match, most players take it in their stride.

The substitution claim is rather far fetched. Having time wasted from early in the match it seems that McGinn wanted play held up until Scott Allan got his shirt perfect and had a full run-down on the role that he was expected to play.

Rogic wasn’t waiting around, he took the free-kick, Kyogo anticipated it, lobbing the ball over Matt Macey while their opponents stood around pointing and arguing.

Celtic didn’t get any breaks or favours, they played to the whistle, followed the rules. Happily taking advantage of slackness from opponents. Watching from the stand new Hibs boss Shaun Maloney will have noted very obvious areas that his new club will have to improve in.

McGinn told The Sun:

I’m feeling sore. We knew Celtic would have a lot of the ball in the first half. I’m a bit sore about a couple of decisions.

Fair play to Kyogo. He’s a killer, he’s on the move the whole time and his finishes especially for the second one are really good but for the second one, the fourth official has the board in his hand so we’re all expecting the sub to be made.

It’s not a foul for starters. If that was Hibs and we’re through on goal, he’ll call it back 100 per-cent but for us, he just lets Celtic go and score.

Ninety seconds after it, Anthony Ralston takes a quick throw and there’s a sub ready and he blows it back to let the sub be made.

It’s all there in black and white for me. I did have a word. You’ll see me getting booked directly after it. I don’t know what was said to me. It was ‘get away’ or something.

When you watch the Celtic TV angle for the second goal you can clearly see there is no one waiting to come on.
The assistant referee isn’t on the touchline either.
Surely Hibs weren’t trying to waste time, tisk, tisk.
The media always run with these stories without any actual investigation into whether those claims have any basis in reality.
Tomorrow’s headlines: SCANDAL AS IT IS REVEALED KYOGO PLAYED WITH BOOTS ON HIS FEET.

Like (newco) every time our talisman scores the opposition throw the dummy tit and rattles out of their prams. Kyogo is only going to improve in 2022, watch out!!????????

  • THOMAS BLACK says:

mcginn did not have anything to say when he pushed greg taylor with two hands and then stood on taylors ankle which eventualy forced taylor off or hanlons two hand push on kyogo if he thinks hibs should have had a stonewall penalty then celtic should have had two stonewallers

Spot on Thomas, we should have had a penalty for the 23rd minute push by McGinn. All throughout the game he was a nasty little man and very lucky not to receive an early booking. All this talk is just to cover up for his own inadequate display. Still think we should have signed his brother when we had the chance.

HIBS have been watching Sevco too often…instead of playing football down Leith Walk…take yer tactics to Murrayfied…Celtic FC have complained all season about the level off Refereeing..and what???..nothing so away back and put yer Proclaimers Records on.

I enjoyed the game. I thought Celtic controlled the first half but didn’t really create anything. Second half was end to end. After taking the he lead Hibs just fell asleep at the back. Two goals easily preventable if you do the schoolboy thing and play the whistle. Hibs could easily have won the match at the end. Just were not clinical in front of goal. A penalty could have been awarded to Hibs but then Celtic could have been awarded one in the first half. Credit to both teams for having a go at each other but I think Celtic did deserve the win the end.

  • Pan says:

McGinn is so stupid he has vindicated the decision himself. As he says, the sub was not ready at the Kyogo goal. The sub was ready at the Ralston throw in.

  • Sean McGinley says:

He should be ashamed, but given his grandfathers refusal to back Davie Hay, it doesn’t surprise me. Greetin faced niaff ! …and talkin absolute shite to boot ! Substitution of a man in the crowd ????
