Sometimes it takes the attention of others to remind you of what you have.Â
When available Ange Postecoglou has always paired Cameron Carter-Vickers with Carl Starfelt in the Celtic defence. Waiting in the wings is Stephen Welsh.Â
Bar one slip up away to Livingston when no-one in the team impressed the young defender has barely put a foot wrong.Â
Patiently biding his time, when Neil Lennon ran out of options Welsh stepped into the side at the end of January and remained in place through to the end of a dreadful season.Â
This season Welsh has been the back-up central defender, thrown in away to Ferencvaros and Bayer Leverkusen he appears to have attracted the attention of Udinese and probably others.Â
Looking at the season on merit rather than transfer fees and international caps there is a very strong case for playing Welsh alongside Carter-Vickers.Â
With Chris Jullien reportedly returning to match fitness Postecoglou could soon have four options in central defence, team news against Hibs on January 17 will be interesting.Â
Celtic have knocked back an approach from Udinese for defender Stephen Welsh.
It’s understood the Serie A club enquired about taking the 21-year-old on loan, with an option to buy.
But Celtic are keen to keep the centre-back, who signed a new four-year contract in April 2021.

Going to be a top player for us.

I’d rather we developed him. He’s getting game time and improving as it is. No value for us in loaning him out right now

Great prospect has played great for us over the last year don’t know why we bought starbomb as bad as Ambrose Welsh a far better player.
