The prospect of Alfredo Morelos finally getting out of Ibrox look to be increasing with flop striker Cedric Itten recalled from his loan spell with Greuther Furth.

A fee of £3m was quoted in the summer of 2020 when Itten was signed from St Gallen at a similar time to Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe.

After four SPFL goals from five starts and 23 appearances off the bench the Swiss internationalist was sent on loan to Greuther at the end of the summer transfer window.

Morelos has been the subject of transfer moonbeams for four years since a mystery club in China were rumoured to be interested but with 18 months left on his deal the pressure is on Ross Wilson to finally get a fee for the Colombian ace.

Preparing for that The Sun reports:

Rangers had the right to recall him during the January window and German outlet Kicker reports that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has decided to exercise that option.

They claim that the 25-year-old is “returning to Glasgow Rangers with immediate effect”.

Itten has bagged two goals for the newly-promoted outfit – including one against Bayern Munich – even as they struggled in the first part of the season.

Greuther Furth scored only 13 goals in 18 matches, with Itten one of only three stars to have scored more than one. Itten has started seven of those matches – and come off the bench five more times.

And now Van Bronckhorst and his coaching team including former Bayern striker Roy Makaay will have the chance to run the rule over him in person.

Before the transfer window opened van Bronckhorst predicted that it could be a quiet one for his new club. So far Nathan Patterson has been sold for an undisclosed fee with American starlet James Sands brought in to cover in a number of positions.
