Ange Postecoglou tried to put some perspective on Celtic’s Europa Conference defeat from Bodo Glimt.

Dropping out of two UEFA competitions resulted in another soft landing with some fans looking for a run deep into the third tier competition.

That notion was in doubt in the early stages of the first leg as Bodo emerged from a 10 week winter break looking sharp, organised and very efficient.

Celtic certainly have domestic momentum but two matches against the Norwegian champions has jolted any idea that the hoops are getting ready to punch their weight again on the continent.

It was a night of reflection for the fans, afterwards Postecoglou told BBC Scotland:

I expect to go further in every competition we play, that’s the nature of this football club. Europe for us was beyond us in terms of levels we needed to get to. It’s my responsibility to make sure we improve and next year ensure that we perform better. I think the supporters understand where we’re at and what we need to do.

There is no time for Celtic to take stock of their third European exit of the season, at noon on Sunday they face Hibs who have had a full week to prepare for the match with Shaun Maloney’s side having their own European ambitions.

The return of Jota, Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers will give Celtic a lift but the squad depth isn’t yet sufficient to get the better of the Norwegian champions over 180 minutes.

Some fans were at the game therefore he should have put out the strongest team available in support of them.He brought in a lot of players. he wanted, all this about the league is the main thing which is true, but you see sevco trying to progress in Europa cup and will take the league as it comes.

Good article Joe. We are where we are at the moment.
    First things first.

We are not were we are to get over the line against the Norwegian champions over 180 minutes, are you serious Joe. Our biggest rivals have just knocked out the favorites for the Europa league at the same time. Look at the players who play for Dortmund, all outstanding quality, and they have managed to beat them, how is that ?. That is 3 last 16’s in last 3 years for them. Celtic have been horrendous in Europe for years. Ange is getting off lightly a think here. 5-1 in aggregate against a team from Norway is horrendous, and quite frankly embarrassing.

Eye’s on the prize Seanbhoy, the league is the ONLY competition that matters bud…..

Don’t react to the SMSM and their agenda, Ange isn’t in a rage induced plot losing wreck of a manager just the same as GVB isn’t a ‘plan C’ masterclass of a manager…

Quite simply big Ange knows what he’s doing and just trust him, Europe is for next season….

Next season? We’ve been saying that for years. That was an embarrassment cannot play same style aw the time need to change it sometimes.strongest team always. Every game is a priority for Celtic and the supporters. None of this disnae matter rubbish.

Dando it’s all good and well saying the prize is to win the league and get into CL next season ,the only good that will come out of this if we win the league is to stop Sevco getting their hands on the money, but seriously what are we going to do in the CL if we can’t get past teams in the third tier euro competition, our team is way below the standard required to compete in Europe, even Sevco seen to make a better job of European football.

I feel I should comment against all the negativity, but why bother. The “I want it now ! “, instant gratification Thatcherite society wouldn’t understand. Carry on Ange. You’re doing a great job, on the right tracks and only a negligent board, supported by pacifists in our support, can stop you.
