Chelsea appear to be deep in trouble but it is hard to get away from the suspicion that the Tory Government will be doing everything possible to help the West London club.

On Friday there were reports of the club’s banking facilities and credit cards being frozen by Barclays but below the surface it seems that every effort is being made to keep the club in business.

The one aspect that can’t be manipulated is public opinion with Three suspending their short sponsorship and Nike reported to be reconsidering their 15-year kit deal.

Without the unlimited overdraft provided by Roman Abramovich and with blue chip sponsors walking away the club becomes a very different prospect to potential buyers.

Chelsea have sent Pat Nevin out with a violin to share sob stories about the tea-lady and long serving staff in the background of a club with a £28m monthly payroll to incredibly rich players with agents ready to pounce if wages aren’t paid.

Across football there is already a backlash to the Abramovich connections, if the name Chelsea becomes toxic and associated with Putin and the Ukraine war any future without top sponsors will look very different to the last 20 years funded by Vladimir Putin’s secretive pal.

Who sanctioned him then? The Greens?

Leaving aside political subterfuge and bias, my question is why now?

He’s been here for 20 years, which means he was a well connected billionaire in his 30’s. It must be alleged that it wouldn’t take a genius to conclude that he was at best “dodgy” and at worst a total corrupt crook using the cover of a UK football club to divert eyes from asking real questions. Let’s face it, most football fans and the thick Great British public don’t really care as long as some shiney shiney is being flashed at them.

He shouldn’t have been allowed anywhere near Chelsea, ergo Manchester City, Newcastle and their owners should just not be allowed to do what they are doing.

    Hell mend them all.

Acting now though? Who said football and politics don’t go? UEFA? Corrupt box ticking self preservation artists.

London still not doing enough Joe, or is your bias towards anything Britain, or British clouding your judgement. Russia themselves have said London is almost taking part in the war, but yes that will be the bbc that put words in the Russians mouth lol. I noticed what you put on about what Ireland are doing, tell me what they are doing again ?

Greed & money laundering. It could also be argued that it was RA who caused the inflated player prices & salaries currently circulating and ruining the beautiful game. More scrutiny is required for all clubs who are members of UEFA and equivalent associations around the world. The people in charge and MP’s were all quite happy to turn a blind eye, so long as the money kept coming and filling their pockets.

    Good Riddance

    KEEP THE FAITH??.
