For every knockabout interview with wee Barry, Boydy, wee Neilly, Doddsy or any of his other Ibrox heroes there are also some awkward shifts like when you have to feign professionalism covering back-to-back Celtic matches against Hibs and St Mirren.
The BBC anchor almost lost it completely when he covered the Tribute Act in their recent draw against Dundee United. His post-match rant called for VAR, full-time officials and referees to be interviewed by the media after matches. Strangely he had never shown much interest in those topics before that trip to Tannadice.
Wednesday started well for Kenny Mac, a gushing interview with Graeme Souness about the wonders of the O** F***, almost a throw back to those innocent days waiting outside Ibrox for an autograph or picture of the man who was paid directly by Rangers (IL) while he was managing Blackburn Rovers.
Last night’s match against St Mirren was apparently a hard watch for the BBC Scotland reporter, Ange didn’t bite, Macintyre knew it from the reply and body language. This wasn’t a knockabout with Boydy, Barry or Kenny Miller about dressing room banter, great nights out or yarns from bygone days about Sir Walter.
As the man with the mic squirmed, Celtic fans loved it. With no self-awareness Kenny Mac was on Twitter at midnight explaining and defending his ‘professionalism’.
