‘One touch’ Giakoumakis took his ugliest touch as a Celtic player then with his second put the ball in the net to join Charles Regan Cook as the leading scorer in the SPFL Premiership. It also brought the curtain down on the season and a 6-0 win over Motherwell.

Yesterday the former VVV Venlo striker took his SPFL tally to 13 from 11 starts and 10 appearances off the bench with a total of 17 from his first season as a Celtic player. All but two of those goals were from his first touch, demonstrating great efficiency and a burning desire to hit the net.

Ange Postecoglou has managed to find two very contrasting strikers to fit into the same system with devastating results, yesterday the Kyogo Furuhashi/Giakoumakis partnership inflicted four goals on Motherwell, over the season the two men contributed 25 of Celtic’s 92 SPFL goals.

Both men had frustrating injuries to overcome, with the benefit of a summer break and pre-season training it is reasonable to expect both to be more prolific next season as Postecoglou enters Phase Two of his Celtic transformation.
