Celtic are reported to be checking out Mohammad Abu Fani during Israel’s Nations League matches.

Israel have been regular group opponents of Scotland in recent seasons but will be up against Iceland and Albania with a match against Russia cancelled.

Fani has picked up 12 international caps but according to the report in the Daily Record has a price tag of just £800,000. Last summer Celtic paid £3.5m for Liel Abada with that fee providing far better value than Ismaila Soro, bought the previous year from Israel for around £2m.

The Daily Record reports:

Premiership champions Celtic will run the rule Maccabi Haifa midfielder Mohammad Abu Fani in Israel’s Nations League games – according to reports in his homeland.

Ange Postecoglou ‘s men are among four teams credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, who has 12 caps for his country.

Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt and Belgian clubs Standard Liege and Royal Antwerp have also sent scouts to watch the holding midfielder.

Fani made his international debut against Scotland two years ago and has gone on to become an influential player for Haifa, who stormed to the Israeli title this season.

He still has three years to go on his contract, but reports in Israel have suggested that his club won’t stand in his way if any side meets his £800,000 valuation.

Celtic are being linked with a variety of players at the moment but one more midfielder is likely for next season.

Three midfielders were signed in January when Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Yosuke Ideguchi arrived but at the end of last season Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton moved on.

Once decisions are known on the options to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota it is likely that Celtic will step up their transfer activity which will be far more concentrated than last summer’s overhaul.
