Adam Montgomery is set to join St Johnstone on a season long loan.

The 19-year-old started nine matches for Celtic last season but following the influx of players in January he was sent out on loan to Aberdeen.

Injury hampered his progress  at Pittodrie but turning 20 next month a full season at St Johnstone should give him the platform to kick on with his career.

Glasgow Live reports:

Adam Montgomery is set to depart Celtic on loan as he gets ready to join St Johnstone for the new Premiership campaign.

Coming through the ranks at Celtic Montgomery played as a left winger but midway through the 20/21 season he was converted to a left-back and made his hoops debut against St Johnstone, in a match that was to be Scott Brown’s last home match as a Celtic player.

An injury to Greg Taylor away to Alkmaar saw Monty pitched into the fray, despite pressure from the Dutch side a young and inexperienced defence that included Stephen Welsh and Tony Ralston held firm to take Celtic into the group stage of the Europa League.

Being realistic Montgomery, like anyone else from the Academy, faces a very tough task breaking into the Celtic first team but an outstanding season for St Johnstone could catapult him into contention in 12 months time.

Last week Liam Scales joined Aberdeen on loan, others such as Liam Shaw, Scott Robertson, Osaze Urhoghide and Ross Doohan are expected to go out on loan.
