Adam Montgomery has wasted no time in getting to know his St Johnstone team-mates.

News of his loan move from Celtic surfaced this morning, by lunchtime he had arrived in Spain at their training camp ready to go through his first training session under Callum Davidson.

In January the 19-year-old pitched into a struggling Aberdeen side, injury and a change of manager ensured that his spell at Pittodrie wasn’t the most fruitful.

St Johnstone required a play-off to secure their top flight status, now, just over a year after winning a cup double Davidson faces a major rebuild with Zander Clark, Jamie McCart, Callum Hendry and Shaun Rooney all moving on as free agents.

Discussing his move with the the St Johnstone website, Montgomery said:

This is a big opportunity for me and I will be giving it my all every day. I’ve arrived at lunchtime today and I’ve been made to feel very welcome by the manager, his staff and the players.

Callum Davidson has displayed faith in me by bringing me to St Johnstone on loan and it’s up to me to show him what I can do.

My aim is to play as many first team games as I can and help the team win games of football. I’m going to be tested here every day and I can see the quality on the squad is good. The hard work has started and I want to show what I’m capable of.

Every manager wants competition for places and every player wants to be pushed to their limits. That’s the way I want it to be and I will respond to every challenge put in front of me by giving 100 percent for this Football Club

Montgomery played an important role for Celtic at the start of last season, helping the team into the group stage of the Europa League and setting up Jota’s winner at Aberdeen to give Celtic their first away points in the SPFL Premiership.

Turning 20 next month he has a chance at St Johnstone to push his career on and force his way into Ange Postecoglou’s squad for next season.

I like Montgomery and believe he has the potential to become an influential player for Celtic and challenging for a first team spot. A loan move is good for him at this point in his career and hope it pays dividends for the young Bhoy. Played his part in the early stages last season covering in defence before being moved up to his natural position in midfield. Best of luck?
