With no sign of genuine interest in Calvin Bassey the Ibrox transfer machine is starting to turn its attention elsewhere in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad.

Juventus and Roma have previously been linked with putting in £20m bids for Borna Barisic, now it seems that Turkish giants Trabzonspor are in talks to sign the defender.

The Croatian has just completed his fourth season at Ibrox, at the age of 29 there is unlikely to be much interest in the defender who was hooked at half-time in the February Glasgow derby after one of the worst performances ever seen in the fixture.

The Glasgow Times claims:

A TURKISH club have reportedly held an ‘official meeting’ with Rangers over a move for Borna Barisic.

The left-back is said to be attracting serious interest from several clubs in Turkey this summer. The Croatian defender has impressed at the Ibrox club during his years there.

He certainly recaptured some of his best form under Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the club’s run to the Europa League final last season. As a result, Trabzonspor have been linked with an approach for the 29-year-old.

Turkish media outlet En Son Haber say that the Super Lig outfit have held an official meeting with Rangers about a move for Barisic. The report also states that another two Turkish sides are monitoring Barisic’s situation at the Light Blues.

Following the August Glasgow Derby Barisic appeared to bid an emotional farewell to the home fans at Ibrox, when the transfer window closed he still hadn’t managed to get out.

There appears to be no appetite from clubs to put in offers for Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo, Filip Helander or Ryan Jack who are out of contract in May 2023.
