The Daily Mail is reporting that Peter Lawwell is the front runner to become the Chairman of Celtic when Ian Bankier steps down in January.

During Lawwell’s time as CEO the Daily Mail became the leading source of information about the club, especially on transfer matters.

Football Scotland reports:

It’s now emerged that successor could well be a familiar face in the shape of the club’s former chief executive. The Daily Mail is reporting this morning that Lawwell is favourite for the vacant role almost a year after he ended his near-two decade stint as CEO. Bankier replaced John Reid as chairman in 2011 and will officially relinquish his position on January 1, 2023.

After 17 years as CEO Lawwell announced his decision to step down shortly after he sanctioned a disastrous training trip to Dubai that resulted in 16 players having to self-isolate and missing two matches.

Following his decision to re-appoint Neil Lennon as manager in May 2019 on the grounds that he knew the city Lawwell stepped up a disastrous signing policy that Ange Postecoglou is still trying to clear up.

In January 2019 Marian Shved and Vakou Bayo joined Celtic with loan deals arranged for Oli Burke, Timo Weah and Jeremy Toljan.

Under Lennon Boli Bolingoli, Hatem Abd Elhamed, Patryk Klimala, Ismaila Soro, Vasilis Barkas and Albian Ajeti were signed with Shane Duffy, Jonjoe Kenny and Diego Laxalt coming in on expensive loans.

Dom McKay lasted less than 100 days as Lawwell’s successor before Michael Nicholson stepped up, another in-house appointment with a former CEO as chairman wouldn’t surprise many Celtic fans.

I hope not this is the same guy who tossed 10inarow and signed the 5way agreement to let the biggest cheats in Scottish football rfc keep their cheating titles so if p.lawwell goes back to paradise then thousands of season will.not be sold..P.LAWWELL TOSSED 10INAROW AWAY TO SAVE THE BLUE POUNDS DIRTY RAT.

You could have taken time to be more eloquent, John,
but I agree with your heart-felt comment. I also understand your anger.
The TRAITOR, PT Lawwell, should never be allowed within a thousand miles of Celtic FC.
However, the financial dream for him and Desmond, the (Deceased) Old Firm getting into the EPL is STILL their intention.
Let’s ensure that DOES NOT happen.
Celtic FC not PLC, THAT’s what matters.
PS Lawwell’s too ‘wide’ to have signed THAT agreement.
But you’re correct, it IS the 6-way agreement as without Lawwell’s approval it would’ve and should’ve died.

Oh we are so fkn screwed..Big Ange won’t suffer this clowns signing policy..Better start looking for another Manager because Ange won’t put up with this Clown

  • KC67 says:

2 decades of downsizing. Forget the domestic success, in Europe we’ve become a joke, unable to compete against smaller clubs with a fraction of our budget, all under the watch of Lawwell.

The club is going nowhere under this current regime. McKay put the fear of God into them with his modernisation plans, only to be replaced with another familiar face in Nicholson.

The fans must have their say on this at the next AGM, although of course, they’ll be ignored. No to Lawwell and out with Desmond.

    • Thomas M Daley says:

So correct about downsizing the team to exist between winning the SPL and squeezed into a knock out tournament.
Anyone over 50 yrs of age will say ,”,Deja Vu”

  • peter cassidy says:

he never left he had his time at celtic some good but some really bad 10 iar 5 way agreement big wages bonuses dividends etc Desmond man so likely him but we have strong manager will take no s#it from lowell.

  • the maister says:

You can’t turn back time and the Daily Mail probably knows it. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Board tried Mark Lawwell for Chairman, right enough!

  • John A says:
