Giovanni van Bronckhorst is set to break his transfer duck with the signing of Antonio Colak ‘in the coming days’.

Despite £50m from UEFA and record commercial income of £28m not a penny has left the Blue Room to sign new players with the Third Qualifying Round of the Champions League just a month away.

Transfer business has been non-existent at Ibrox since the season ended with no offers coming in for the Europa League runners-up and no sign of the company cheque book coming out.

A variety of excuses have been put forward to explain the delay in signing Colak despite a transfer fee of just £2.5m, a tenth of the fee expected when the Calvin Bassey transfer auction kicks off.

With their glass half full, Glasgow Live reports:

Rangers could land Antonio Colak in the coming days after PAOK Salonika secured a replacement striker ahead of his exit from the club, according to a report.

The 28-year-old striker is understood to have made a move to Ibrox his top choice this summer despite interest from the likes of former club Malmo, FC Copenhagen and La Liga outfit Real Mallorca. The Croatia cap has been identified as a key transfer target as Giovanni van Bronckhorst looks to boost his attacking options. Last season the Light Blues suffered at the tail end of the campaign due to injuries to key pair Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe.

Colak has two years left on his PAOK contract- Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo are free agents next May and able to sign pre-contract deals in January.

    How apt.

The transfer ‘activity’ around Ibrox has been all ‘Colak-and-daggers’ so far anyway.

The Daily Record must be ready with a Souvenir pull-out section, if/when sevco actually buy a player!
