Leigh Griffiths makes big claim despite being released three times in 12 months

Despite being shown the door by three clubs in less than a year Leigh Griffiths believes that he can still cut it at the highest level. 

Last July he was handed a 12 month contract by Ange Postecoglou but after having to leave Celtic’s pre-season training camp in Wales his days were numbered. 

Old pal James McPake offered an escape back at Dundee but after scoring three goals his loan was cut short in January.  

Griffiths then dropped two divisions to Falkirk but the expected flood of goals never appeared with just two from a dozen appearances. 

Undaunted by that fall from grace Griffiths has been working out on his own through the summer, yesterday he appeared on BBC Scotland’s Sportsound show appealing for a club to offer him a route back into the game: 

I can still cut it at the highest level, I still fully believe that, and its about getting my chance to prove myself again. There’ll be split opinions on whether my career is finished. 

I need to try and prove myself to people who keep doubting me and it seems nowadays that there’s more and more. 

A lot of things have happened over the past couple of years and clubs might not want to be associated with me, but I’m just working as tirelessly as I can to get myself in the best shape. 

In November 2020 Griffiths scored in the penalty shoot-out as Scotland beat Serbia to reach the finals of the European Championships, the following month he scored for Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final but 18 months later was released by Falkirk. 

Celtic have never made any announcement over Griffiths’ departure from the club.
