Ange Postecoglou has hit back at the lazy media coverage of Celtic’s Champions League campaign.

Fifteen months after inheriting a club on its knees the Australian has fashioned a competent side that is capable of creating multiple chances against clubs from the richest leagues in Europe.

True, Celtic have been badly let down by poor finishing but there is a world of difference between losing 2-0 to RB Leipzig and the 5-1 and 7-1 capitulations from other Scottish clubs this week.

Rather than assess each club on an individual basis most media outlets have lumped the three clubs together and stamped it with a OUT OF THEIR depth tag.

Postecoglou doesn’t speak for any others but stating the case for Celtic he told STV:

I can only talk for my club but if anyone can tell me that from the four games we’ve played that we don’t deserve to be there, or that we’ve been outplayed or looked out of place, then I reckon they’re talking from an agenda or some sort of bias.

The questions I’ve had after each of our games is about opportunities missed. The ‘opportunities missed’ suggests that we’ve got to improve some areas for sure, but doesn’t say that we somehow don’t belong in a competition that we’ve earned the right to be in.

Celtic have two more matches to play in the Champions League and retain the chance of third place and dropping into the Europa League.

In the meantime they lead the SPFL Premiership with this season’s winners guaranteed a place in the group stage of next season’s competition.
