David Martindale has made an incredible sales pitch for Ange Postecoglou to manage in the English Premier League.

After just over a year in the Celtic job Leicester City, Brighton and Wolves have been linked with an interest in the Australian, it seems to be part of the news cycle that any club struggling or manager-less will be looking north to Celtic for a solution.

Postecoglou remains on the same 12 month rolling contract that he signed with Celtic and has appeared unconcerned about security when his drive and motivation is all seem geared towards delivering success rather than avoiding failure.

Martindale seems to revel in the media spotlight, speaking to the Daily Record about the Celtic boss he said:

He’s been in the A-League, the J-League, here and if he keeps doing what he’s doing it won’t be long before Ange is managing a team in the English Premier League – if that’s what Ange wants to do.

He’ll maybe progress Celtic in the Champions League group stage because that’s probably the next evolution for them – and he’s more than capable of doing that. I enjoy listening to Ange, he’s very open and honest, he’s candid in how he speaks. Celtic have made players better and Ange is at the forefront of that.

It isn’t unusual to compliment and talk up the ability of a rival coach but pushing for them to move to another club is something very different.

Managerial contracts can be something of a grey area with no regular transfer market although compensation is often paid out to lure a manager out of a deal.

In April 2017 Brendan Rodgers switched from his 12 month rolling contract to a four year deal with Celtic, less than halfway through it he quit for Leicester City with the hoops picking up £9m for the loss of their manager and three backroom staff.

Reading elsewhere, Rodgers supposedly will pocket 35m if sacked.

Surely the opinion he’s expressing is an honest opinion of Ange’s progression as a manager. Nothing sinister in that m8
