Since the incident last month Lafferty has continued playing for Kilmarnock, helping the Ayrshire side past Dund United n Tuesday night into the semi-finals of the League Cup.

After the SFA confirmed his 10 match ban Lafferty told the Kilmarnock website:

I want to deeply apologise to the club, supporters and my family for the distress caused over the past month. I totally acknowledge that my reaction to the incident was completely out of order. There is no excuse, it’s something that I immediately regretted and have been embarrassed about ever since. I absolutely accept that I should not have responded to provocation in that manner.

I placed myself in a position that has been very difficult to deal with, so I’m now determined to work with Nil By Mouth to ensure that others, particularly the youngsters at the club, learn from my mistake and avoid putting themselves in any type of similar situation in the future.

Lafferty will be available to play against Celtic in th semi-final of th League Cup at Hampden on January 14 or 15.

I note he didn’t apologise to the victim of his racist comment nor indeed to the people of Irish ethnicity he insulted.

This tells you all you need to know about the character of this man and his true feelings about what he said.

It’s clear that he is not sorry in any way about the content of his vile remark, merely sorry that he was caught saying it.

      What Tony B says ^
A prime example of a ‘ sorry I got caught’
      Statement…

    What provocation?

  • Scud Missile says:

A BIGOT and a PONCE of the highest kind.Taking drink from people on benefits in the Saracen Bar in Possilpark week after week after week, without putting his hand back in his pocket to buy them a drink back.
He had to be shamed into it and told to get to the bar and get a round of drinks in.
A 10 game ban for language like that in any work place or office would result in your P45.

He was clearly guilty yet still allowed to play!

He helped knock Dundee Utd out The League Cup.

    That is a disgrace.
