As the nearest English city to Dublin, Liverpool has strong connections with Ireland which is reflected in almost every aspect of life in the city.
Both of the city’s football clubs draw support from third and fourth generation families and bring in support on matchdays from across Ireland.
Although Glasgow now has a large number of city centre Irish pubs that situation has long been the case in Liverpool, but with today’s visitors in mind Irish pubs have been warned to make a few changes.

The Thursday before the game Strathclyde’s finest came down and went round all the local pubs to tell them not to show our game as it would upset the little dears who would be visiting and there could be trouble. The publicans were told any trouble caused would be on their own heads, there would be no help from the police.
