Hard nosed hack Kenny Macintyre was reduced to a snivelling wreck last night as he suffered through the eight goal Champions League thriller at Ibrox.
Even the group support of Neil McCann, Steven Thompson and Tom English couldn’t dull the pain of the biggest ever Champions League defeat on Scottish soil.
Earlier this season Macintyre shed crocodile tears for Jack Ross as Dundee United lost 7-0 away to AZ Alkmaar.
When it comes to tough questions about Aberdeen, Hibs, Selik or Dundee United big Keny is all over it, when his heroes get humiliated the man from Mull just can’t bring himself to ask the big questions, the ones that the fans on their buses and cars want to ask.
Big @kennymacsport anchoring for @BBCSportsound tonight and has just uttered the words – his throat catching – “It’s Rangers’ worst defeat since 1957.”
•Paramedics at the BBC compound.
•Macintyre said to be “serious but stable”.
•The Beeb announce 4-week “compassionate leave”.— Graham Spiers (@GrahamSpiers) October 12, 2022
In 1957 Celtic beat the real Rangers 7-1 in the final of the Scottish League Cup. In 1960 Eintracht Frankfurt won 6-3 at Ibrox then 6-1 in Germany in the semi-final of the European Cup.

Rangers are my team, never hidden that. Be strange to have someone working on Sportsound that didn’t support a team.
As for Kris Boyd. I know at times he is a wind up merchant, but he talks up our game. Would he be in the Sky studio tonight if he wasn’t such a big personality?

What’s not to like ! The 4 fan boys can tell their grandkids that they were there on the night of the Massacre at Ibrox Stadium . By the way ,on the 6 minute BBC 1 Scotland news item at 10:30 ,it was described that the Rangers ‘fell to Liverpool 1-7 .’ Not were destroyed ,or humiliated ,or embarrassed ,or thrashed ,or disgraced ,or shamed ,but ‘fell.’ Good to know in times of need , our national broadcaster remains as staunch as it ever was ! My own take on the game ; big Al the brute .
You would think a guy from Mull would be of Gaelic culture and therefore side with Celtic – but there ya go – it takes all sorts to make a world…. and he certainly wouldn’t get a big gig at BBC Scotland by supporting The Hoops for sure…
Goodness knows how Packie Bonner got there (hope I’m right in saying that as I don’t listen) he must’ve joined the masons or something like that…
Clyde Superscoreboard might be good fun tonight !
