Etch-a-Sketch lines- Kris Boyd calls out the SFA over their botched Jota decision

Even Kris Boyd has called out the SFA over their botched treatment of Jota’s ‘goal’ against Motherwell on Wednesday night.

After David Dickinson decided to disallow the goal a long distance image was show on Motherwell TV to explain the decision.

When Celtic fans queried the use of that image Motherwell chief Alan Burrows confirmed that there were cameras operational on each 18 yard line.

Things got farcical when The Sun reported that the closest camera was focussed on the dug-out areas rather than Kyogo Furuhashi’s pass to Jota.

On Friday morning, more than 36 hours after the game had finished the SFA owned up that there had been operational issues as the issue became headline news.

Reacting to the unfolding face, Boyd told Sun readers:

Ange Postecoglou was very diplomatic after Celtic’s win at Motherwell in midweek.

That might not have been the case had they not claimed another three points — and with good justification.

What were the VAR lines all about for Jota’s goal, which was ruled out for offside?

It was like something a three-year-old had drawn on their Etch-a-Sketch.

Offside should be a black and white issue, yet we somehow manage to find grey areas.

The SFA have since released a statement saying the camera in the Motherwell half failed to capture the incident.

But, there was an even more appalling decision in the game.

The tackle on Carl Starfelt was the worst I have seen all year.

It was a proper leg-breaker from Josh Morris, who was way out of control, yet he’s only booked and there is no review.

How on earth can that be deemed only a yellow while Tony Watt is red carded the other week for pulling out of a challenge?

If the Morris incident is not a clear and obvious error then I do not know what is.

Boyd is the last person to be sympathetic to Celtic but there will barely be a hoops fan that can argue with his assessment of events since Wednesday.

Now the spotlight is on Michael Nicholson to see if he takes the SFA to task or accepts it as teething troubles- inviting more instances with no one at the SFA taking responsibility for recent events.

Does anyone really believe Celtic plc will do anything about this? They will make out they are doing something then let it disappear out of sight as they have done in the past. We need a Fergus

  • John S says:

Michael Nicholson has an opportunity, by virtue of VAR contentions, to get to the root of unacceptable appointments of match-day officials. I am absolutely certain he would have the support of all Celtic fans in tackling an issue which has irked them for 130 years.

  • Mike says:

Are the referee’s deliberately trying to un do var so it gets scraped as whenever it is used properly it will show just how many mistakes they make or how they favour one teem over a nuther

It’s the people running our game that makes us look a laughing stock…simple

That acids really kicking in if Boyd is saying we were cheated.
