Kris Boyd probably seemed unrecognisable to his Sky Sports colleagues as they looked in on the expert punditary from Perth today.
The fun-loving pundit that was in the London studio appeared to have been replaced by a Tribute Act as he shared his views on St Johnstone’s 2-1 victory.
At 4.45 yesterday Boyd was anticipating a two point gap in the SPFL Premiership at the end of the weekend, as he pulled off the Sky Sports mic at the end of the match at MacDiarmid Park he knew he was getting it tight on social media.
Since cheering his old club into the group stage draw for the Champions League at the end of August Boyd has had to find excuses for eight defeats in nine weeks that puts Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s job on the line.
A clean sweep of Champions League defeats has earned a place in the record books, now after 13 matches in the SPFL Celtic are seven points clear and streets ahead in every area.
Next Saturday Boyd will be on duty at St Mirren Park for the visit of the Ibrox Tribute Act, only a fool would put money on Van Bronckhorst being in the away dug out.
