Ange Postecoglou has dropped a hint that he there could be more business to be done in the Asian transfer market.
Yuki Kobayashi was the first January deal to be completed when Celtic announced the arrival of the defender in November, on Friday Tomoki Iwata became the sixth player to follow Postecoglou from the J-League to Celtic.
The success of those players domestically and getting to play in the Champions League has made Celtic a much more attractive option to Asian players with two strikers heavily linked with January moves to Scotland.
World Cup striker Cho Gue-sung seems certain to be on his way to Europe after impressing in Qatar while Oh Hyeon-gyu of Suwon Samsung has spoken of an offer being put to his club from Celtic.
It is more than a decade since Celtic signed Ki Sung Yeung from South Korea but that stat could be about to change as Postecoglou told The Sun:
When you’re doing business in January, particularly in Europe, then it’s very hard to get it done early.
The Asian leagues all finish up in October or November. So if you have an interest there it means you can do your business before the January window opens.
Tomoki is not in the country yet. We’re hoping he’ll be here early next week and then he will probably need a couple of weeks of work.
Celtic are hoping to have the registrations of Kobayashi and Alistair Johnston confirmed by the SFA today.
Im beginning to wonder if Ange isn’t a bit narrow with his thinking re transfers, a lot of attention in that market and we will have quite a contingent within the squad, is this a sign of limited knowledge outside of where he has worked? Don’t know if that helps or hinders the dynamics?
