Conflicts of Interest? Greg Aitken, Celtic’s Hampden VAR, the Kilmarnock and McCoist connections

On Saturday at Hampden Celtic’s hopes of reaching the final of the Viaplay Cup will be to some extent influenced by Willie Collum and Greg Aitken.

Collum is well known to Celtic fans, in 2010 he marked his first Glasgow derby by awarding a penalty against the hoops for an incident to which he had his back turned.

Apparently he heard contact before a squealing Kirk Broadfoot hit the deck, Collum has continued in that manner ever since. He knows best, is the star of the show and everyone else is part of his support cast.

In the background at Hampden on Saturday will be Aitken, from the Ayrshire Refereeing Association. According to Facebook he lives in Kilmarnock, works in Kilmarnock and attended Kilmarnock Academy- I wonder who he will be hoping wins at Hampden?

It says everything about the SFA that he was considered for a semi-final involving his hometown club and that he didn’t highlight and decline the appointment.

Aitken hasn’t been trusted to referee above Championship level but on Saturday he will have every camera angle available to spot any penalty box handball as well as the Hawkeye technology to check over any offside calls.

It seems that being pictured with Ally McCoist was something of a thrill for the Ayrshire based referee- why else would he share it on Facebook.

With his lucrative secondary job in refereeing you’d imagine that it is important to keep your own footballing preferences and favourites to yourself.

Not Aitken, he is bold enough to share an image while on refereeing duty with someone who is clearly a bit of a hero, someone who wishes Celtic defeat every time they go on the pitch.

Lol I don’t blame these guys I still blame the FANS.

You all continue to shout from the ROOFTOPS,but at the same time keep showing up for these games home and away.

So the people at the top the SFA and our own club won’t do a single thing to change it because you can complain as much as you want but until you stop going to games in protest they won’t get the MESSAGE.

So you all know there already a bias about the officials in charge of this game with GUARANTEED dodgy decisions and you all still want to attend a sport that decisions have been made before a ball has been kicked.

Stay away from these until all matters have been addressed, don’t be doing it after decisions have gone against us and costing us a cup or the league.

Prevention is better than the cure.

Even if we all stay away and the club complains they’ll do bugger-all at the SFA as they’re all on the side of Satan i.e the Sevconian filth…

    • Jim Duffy says:

Well said once more Scud but I fear the fans don’t listen.

Don’t often agree with Scud but in this scenario he is 100% right.
Hit the SFA & .SPFL in the pocket for their showcase Cup games.
The added bonus will be the empty spaces in the crowd.
Sponsors and Advertisers will not be happy and hopefully will
be Asking the relevant questions of the games Administrators.
Our own Board will also face questions.
Hopefully they will reply along the lines of “….we’ll what the fuck did you expect.
You keep pissing them off with the corruption and cheating and they’re saying enough is enough”.
As far as home league games go, banners all round the ground.
Televised games same script with banners.
Coordinated mass early emptying of the ground or late entry to the stadium.
Boycott tickets for selected away games especially the DebtDome.
Let the camera tell the story.
      Empty spaces always raise questions.
      Keep it visible and Loud.
