An events venue on the doorstep of Celtic Park is set to become reality.

Five years ago the club announced plans to consider building a hotel/museum/retail/ticketing complex but it appears that more modest plans will go ahead although they are being progressed by a firm called Dalriada Developments rather than Celtic.

Dalriada Street runs parallel to the Lisbon Lions Stand and London Road and is currently only used for car parking on matchdays.

Re Glasgow reports:

PLANS for a purpose-built events venue beside Celtic Park look set to be taken forward by a developer.

Planning permission was given in March 2020 for two-storey premises, with space for 700 people, plus covered external seating and five container units as hot food takeaway outlets.

The proposal involves vacant land next to 1257 London Road, including part of Dalriada Street.

Some of the land involved belongs to Glasgow City Council and councillors are now being asked to agree to its sale.

A report by officials states: “The purchaser intends to acquire the land to be developed for leisure and event use. Discussions are ongoing in respect of a revised planning application.”

No details are given about what changes to the original plan are being proposed.

Documents submitted to the planning department when the first application was made in July 2018 stated that the venue would be called G40 and would host a range of events including live music, corporate dinners, weddings, fashion shows, and food and drink events.

It would seem likely that the development is related to Celtic due to car parking issues with 25 high profile events taking part at Celtic Park every year.

With major redevelopment of the areas around Celtic Park taking place over the last 15 years there now appears to be a viable case for a year round events venue.

Celtic have recently improved the facilities inside their stadium with a Sports Bar that is licenced until two hours before kick-off adding to the Kerrydale Suite which is available to ticket holders on matchdays.
