Stewart Regan probably thought that he could boost his street cred when he took to Twitter to highlight the embargo that BBC News has put on the tax scandal involving Nadhim Zahawi.

The Tory chief is reported to have coughed up £3m to HMRC, unlike Boris Becker, Ken Dodd and Lester Piggot the multimillionaire won’t be spending time in jail reflecting on his ‘tax issues’.

He’d probably rather forget all about it but Regan was CEO of the SFA as the football authorities turned a blind eye to the tax scams committed by Rangers Football Club before they went into administration and liquidation.

Regan never raised a single question about the token salaries registered with the SFA and SPL while Rangers embarked on disguised remuneration on an industrial scale.

Queen of the South and Falkirk lost out in Scottish Cup Finals as the Ibrox club fielded teams rammed full of ineligible players.

Taking over from Gordon Smith as CEO in October 2010 Regan lasted seven and a half years in the job, assisted greatly by the heavily conflicted Campbell Ogilvie as President of the SFA.

In total HMRC missed out on £60m owed to them by Rangers through a variety of schemes, despite the use of ineligible players the old club is still listed as winners of the Scottish Cup in 2002, 2003, 2008 and 2009.

The best people the SFA could find for the top job in Scottish football?!

Just another scandal, lost in the noise of all the corruption and incompetence
    swirling around Hampden. 🙁
