Michael Stewart thinks that it will take something special to stop Celtic this season.
St Mirren managed that back in September with a 2-0 victory but that is the only defeat that Ange Postecoglou’s side have suffered in more than a year of SPFL action.
At the turn of 2022 the hoops won 15 and drew three of their Premiership games to take the title, this season it is 23 wins plus one draw and one defeat to build up a nine point advantage after 25 matches.
Stewart watched Postecoglou lose his first domestic match in charge when Celtic crashed to a 2-1 defeat at Tynecastle in July 2021, since then the Australian has transformed the club with results to match.
Watching Sportscene tonight, the Daily Record reports Stewart saying:
You say that something special to stop them and that’s exactly it. It needs to be something special to stop Celtic on any one day but also when you extrapolate that across a full season, it would have to be something extra special to be able to stop this Celtic side.
For every other club in the country, that’s the benchmark they need to try and attain. At the moment, Celtic are streets ahead of everybody else.
Over the next couple of weeks cup competitions come into play with Celtic’s only remaining SPFL match in February coming on the 18th when Aberdeen visit Glasgow.
