Vasilis Barkas was the hero of the Utrecht support following their 2-2 draw away to NEC Nijmegen.

The homeside looked home and dry as they went 2-0 up in the 48th minute but two quick goals earned Utrecht a point with the away fans delighted by the result that keeps them comfortably in seventh place and in with a chance of European football next season.

Barkas has played in all 25 of Utrecht’s Eredivisie matches this season which is exactly what his career needed after two miserable seasons at Celtic.

The loan deal was set up in July giving the keeper time to get settled in to life in Holland but it seems that a permanent move is off the table due to the terms of the final year on his Celtic contract.

After missing out on Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon in the 2020 close season Peter Lawwell turned his attention to Barkas but only AEK Athens benefited out of the reported £4m deal.

A resumption of his Celtic career seems highly unlikely but at the age of 28 his form for Utrecht this season could tempt another club in to making an offer for the Celtic misfit.

  • Scud Missile says:

I see the daily sevco have been running with the Angus Gunn story for the last 4 or 5 day’s now and that he is ready to play for Scotland.
Something tells me there is more to this than what we know,my take on it is that sevco are going to sign him and should that happen yhe press will then move again and push it for him to be Scotlands first choice goalkeeper giving sevco a nice bit of positive press, especially for next season, with shite quotes about building from the back starting with the goalkeeper and Scotland’s number one.

Best not to financially support them Scud – for one day far less 4 or 5 – hopefully you never purchased or looked online as that’s funding them…

I’m hoping you just read this in your fish and chips wrapper of looked at it in a busy supermarket.

If you looked at it in a supermarket, then I hope you scrubbed your hands well to clean them off their evil toxins !

I’m not sure what The Daily Sevco is but if as I assume it’s a newspaper then that’s a brilliant description of it. !!!!

Wee goalies are easy to beat. You just chip the ball over them!

  • the maister says:

    But nobody told Lawwell though!
