In mid-afternoon yesterday one of the bright young digital wizards at the Daily Record discovered a highly significant anniversary.

The two year anniversary is virtually unknown in media circles but with print sales falling at 18% year on year and digital advertising stale things are grim at the Glasgow based publisher.

Some false hope and positivity, such as employing a manager big on soundbites and low in substance is badly needed but the digital team know their target audience.

Remind bears of that Sunday afternoon when Celtic drew 0-0 away to Dundee United allowing them to break Lockdown regulations because they are a special people with the laws of the land. And the media joined in the law breaking celebrations.

Breaking laws to meet up of course wasn’t good enough, there is always more than an edge to a celebration with the People. They want to let others know about their superiority, get in their faces or they demonstrated in March 2021 trash the city centre as a reminder that apparently ‘they are back’.

On May 11 last year 10,000 fans peacefully gathered outside Celtic Park for the midnight return of the champions from Dundee.

Three days later Glasgow Cross, the Gallowgate and Trongate were turned green and white as Celtic fans celebrated winning the title after 60,000 fans had watched Callum McGregor lift the SPFL Premiership trophy.

Two years later the People are angry again as they get used to watching Celtic fans celebrating the successes of their football team.
