Micky Beale has ruled out Tom Lawrence and Kemar Roofe for the rest of this season with the Welshman already a doubt for next season.

On the plus side John Souttar and Rabi Matondo are close to returning to action alongside fellow crock Ianis Hagi who made his first appearance in over a year with a 20 minute run out against St Johnstone at the end of January.

Lawrence was signed last summer on a highly lucrative Bosman deal but after just four SPFL matches picked up a mystery injury and hasn’t been seen since.

Last season he made 37 appearances as Derby County were relegated from the Championship but soon after switching to Ibrox his career has come to a shuddering halt.

Beale told the Daily Record:

Tom Lawrence has had another operation and won’t be available until the back end of pre-season. Kemar tried to train on Saturday but it was no good.

Unfortunately with Kemar he’s going through a tough time at the moment and he will be away to see someone as we need to get to the end of this. He has a problem with his calf but there are one or two other things that could be leading to that that have been nagging.

Me and him have had a real heart to heart. He’s a boy that I’m really close to. I want to see him get some light at the end of the tunnel so we’re going to get some advice on that.

With Tom Lawrence he was back our training in isolation, had some real discomfort when he was running. They had a look and they had to do a procedure so he won’t be back until the back end of pre-season.

Roofe has managed five substitute appearances this season, the most recent away to Livingston on February 18 where he came off the bench for the last 20 minutes.

It seems to have been a very costly appearance for the former Leeds and Anderlecht striker who is under contract until May 2024.

Souttar hasn’t played since the opening match of the season away to Livingston, Filip Helander hasn’t played since April 10 last year.
