Open Goal are set to pull out of Broomhill Sporting Club with Si Ferry stepping down as manager.

Over the course of five years the podcast has built up a massive following with sell-out shows at the Hydro to watch live events.

Ange Postecoglou has made a couple of appearances alongside Ferry and Paul Slane but the initial excitement of taking over and rebranding a Lowland League club appears to have fallen away.

With attention on Darvel and the very limited scope for promotion into the SPFL the Lowland League has found itself struggling for an identity with three Colts teams and two University sides.

The Daily Record reports:

Open Goal are set to end their partnership with Broomhill FC after just a year.

The podcast and entertainment brand – fronted by former Celtic and Swindon Town star Si Ferry – entered into the revolutionary agreement with the Lowland League club last summer. Ferry took on his first management job along with his fellow podcast star Paul Slane and attracted former pros including Kirk Broadfoot, Derek Lyle, Ryan Conroy and Gary Fraser to the club.

But the company are set to pull out at the end of the season, with Ferry and his management team departing. A source close to the club said the split was “amicable”.Players were told the news on Tuesday night with just five games remaining in their Lowland League campaign.

Open Goal have been playing their matches at Broadwood which is also the home of Cumbernauld Colts.

With the Colts teams only admitted on a year by year basis next season’s Lowland League could look very different to this season’s competition with a number of strongly supported clubs like Clydebank, Irvine Meadow, Pollok and Auchinleck Talbot trapped in the West of Scotland League with very limited promotion options.
