John Souttar battled back bravely from three serious ankle injuries to sign a lucrative Ibrox contract in the summer.

After making his competitive debut in July he had to wait until yesterday at Celtic Park for his second start, selected by Micky Beale to replace Connor Goldson.

It was a fairly routine match for the former Hearts defender, but perhaps getting too cocky he slipped up in the 73rd minute with a very sloppy pass to Allan McGregor.

At the age of 41 old man Greegsy was never going to outsprint Jota, he couldn’t even get close enough to foul the lively Celtic winger as he took two touches to put Celtic 3-1 in front.

As 60,000 fans celebrated Souttar made the walk of shame, preparing for the restart knowing that in his second start he had almost certainly finished off his team-mates hopes of winning the SPFL title.

Still there was one Celtic fan with some words of consolation for the Ibrox fall guy, one of Ross Wilson’s legendary summer signings.

Soutts is expected to earn a Scotland call up from Steve Clark, joining Ryan Jack, Billy Gilmour and Nathan Patterson in the squad for the June internationals.

Notice how the privileged ones were not wearing the suits and brown brogues yesterday ! That old tradition did not last long second time around ,did it ? Maybe we’ll see a trend here with the tribute act and it’s practices… Short lived entities !
