Ange Postecoglou has spoken to Sky Sports about the speculation linking him with a move to Spurs.

It is now two months since Antonio Conte was sacked with the North London club appearing to be no closer to appointing a replacement.

Arne Slot of Feyenoord had emerged as the favourite for the job but on Thursday morning it emerged that he would be staying with the Dutch champions.

Gordon Duncan (Sky Sports): Away from tomorrow, it feels like once a month, we ask you about speculation linking you with English Premier League jobs.

There does seem to be a lot of speculation about Spurs this morning. How much does that come onto your radar?

Ange Postecoglou: Yeah, I’m still here. Yeah, em, it doesn’t, I think that anyone who knows me, and I’ve been asked about these kind of things plenty of times now. What is important for me is the here and now, I’ve never planned anything in my football career, my ambitions right now are to enjoy tomorrow, have a good game and then try and win a Cup Final and make it a special year. It is not every year that you get an opportunity to win a treble. And if anyone thinks that I’m thinking other than that then they don’t know me.

GD: I suppose these things are ultimately a compliment although it might be a distraction at times. Do you get quiet moments in the season where you think about your ambitions and what you’ve still got left to achieve here?

AP: No because I know that is not how football works. You can’t as a manager try and chart a course for yourself to be in a certain position at a certain time. The one thing that I do know for certain, 100% if you are not concentrating on the task in hand your destiny gets taken out of your hands.

I’ve worked really hard in my career not to be in that position, and the way that I’ve done that is to make sure that beyond what happens this week, and a couple of games I’m not going to think about anything other than that. Whatever happens in my career from here will only happen because I’m doing what I do really well.

GD: We’ve mentioned that special bond with the fans, what would you say to any Celtic fans that are unsettled or worried that that temptation will come along?

AP: Again, I’ve said before, what I think that the Celtic supporters want is their manager concentrating on what is important for them now. I hate to think that our supporters want me thinking about anything else other than having a great game tomorrow, having a great day then winning a Cup Final and making it a treble which will make it a special year. I think that is where they want my responsibility to lay.

On Saturday Postecoglou will accept the SPFL Premiership trophy and the adulation of 60,000 fans following the match against Aberdeen.

Having delivered four trophies out of five Celtic fans fully appreciate the job that their manager has carried out after the car crash handover from Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell.

Postecoglou never brought any backroom staff and remains on the 12-month rolling contract that he signed after leaving Yokohama F Marinos in June 2021.

Not the most convincing of replies I’ve ever heard

Those fine chaps and chapettes really do know how to be cunning at Sky Sports Scotland , don’t they ? First it’s the perpetual probing questions to Ange about being linked to every club that has a manager’s vacancy . Pay attention SS ! He’s going nowhere . Secondly there’s the continual feel good factor interviews , titbits and euphoria surrounding their great pals in Govan land ! It’s almost as if there is this massive tacit acceptance from the SS that there has to be disruption to one club and harmony to another clumpany from Glasgow ! All in the name of fairness and even handedness of course ….

Gordon Duncan must have the same agent as BENNY MILLER,never off the radio or TV now he has a Sky gig as well to add to voice-over work and his gig with the SFA.

Spurs punts don’t go too far nowadays. Just ask any of the last five – since 2019!
