Ten days after winning their first Scudetto of this century Napoli were brought back down to earth with Monza now owning the bragging rights to Italian football.

After clinching the title by drawing 1-1 away to Udinese on May 4 there were incredible scenes in Napoli as the victorious team returned to their city, only fans that had watched Diego Maradona in the eighties could recall similar celebrations.

The scenes of joy were shared worldwide after Luciano Spalletti’s squad won the title with four matches to spare.

Today it seems like the partying and celebrations caught up with the champions as a much changed side lost 2-0 away to ninth placed Monza.

According to the logic of Eilidh Barbour on Sky Sports Monza now own the bragging rights to Italian football.

Bragging rights for beating a B team.
They won the league so I don’t think the care about that result. Rest players and next season’s prep will start now.
The rangers had a street part for beating a Celtic B team that didn’t care about the derby.
League cup, league title and Scottish cup final next month is all that they care about. We are going for a record 8th treble, so who cares about the game yesterday. Believe me nobody has lost any sleep over it.
As I said, the treble is way more important.? COYBIG YNWA.

It really was just a throwaway remark from a TV presenter, one who struggles to hide her smirk when Boyd’s pus is tripping him. “Bragging rights” isn’t even in any way a positive thing, coming from the root word ‘braggadocio’ meaning boastful or arrogant – sounds about right for the club soon to be ‘formerly the most successful in world football’…..

Fed up hearing about a supposed ‘dead-rubber’ when we passed up the chance to bury them for two or three years.
