Vasilis Barkas is reported to be a transfer target for several clubs.
The goalkeeper signed for Celtic in a £4m deal from AEK Athens in the summer of 2020/21 but suffered badly as Neil Lennon’s side imploded.
Arriving in a new country during Lockdown for a heavily pressurised season was a lot to deal with but by the end of the season Conor Hazard, Scott Bain and Barkas had all been given runs in the side.
Ange Postecoglou gave Barkas another chance to impress but after losing bad goals against Midtjylland and West Ham interest in Joe Hart was accelerated.
A loan spell at Utrecht this season appears to have worked out well for all parties but with a year left on his contract Celtic will be looking to salvage something from a hefty transfer fee.
Utrecht are interested in making the move permanent but manager Michael Silberbauer told The Sun:
As a club, we are doing everything we can to keep Vasilis Barkas here, but it is a difficult issue. Not least because there are now other clubs also interested after his successful season.
It would be something of a minor miracle if there was to be a Celtic comeback for Barkas, Hart’s contract also runs until June 2024.
