Stephen McGowan has speculated over the future of Ange Postecoglou.

The Daily Mail reporter centres his Saturday column on the turmoil at Ibrox, believing that the success of the Celtic manager is the main reason for massive changes on and off the park.

McGowan has a long established reputation for being ahead of the pack when it comes to all matters Celtic, today he picks up on Postecoglou being side by side with Peter Lawwell at the SFA Youth Cup Final at Hampden.

Two years ago Lawwell was at the heart of Celtic’s disastrous Lockdown Season which included announcing a managerial review in December, backing Neil Lennon as the man for the job in February only for the Irishman to resign after a second defeat to Ross County.

Ian Bankier was a very low profile Chairman of Celtic for over a decade but it appears that his successor will have a more hands on role.

Looking at Postecoglou’s situation McGowan explains:

Hampered by an Australian passport for much of his career, Postecoglou is now 57. His stock in Europe has never been as high as it is now.

If a chance comes to manage in the world’s biggest league for £6million a year, Celtic might be powerless to stop him.

Lawwell and Michael Nicholson might even be turning their minds to possible successors already; just in case.

Postecoglou has never given the speculation around his future the time of day. He shuts it down instantly.

Speaking after the Viaplay Cup final, he claimed people would be surprised by how long he hangs around Glasgow.

Come this summer, Parkhead powerbrokers should put that statement to the test.

Neither party knows when the offers will come; the only certainty is that they will.

If a Spurs or a Chelsea come calling, it might be pointless having a conversation.

In theory at least, however, Celtic should make it worth his while hanging around for another year or two at least.

If that means paying more than they paid Brendan Rodgers, so  be it.

And if that fails? Ally McCoist will be parked outside Parkhead, ready to fulfil that promise to rev up the car and drive the Celtic boss as far away from Glasgow — and Rangers — as fast as he  possibly can.

Postecoglou signed a 12 month rolling contract when he joined Celtic in June 2021 with no real speculation over the terms and bonus structure.

  • Duncan says:

I believe that there is only one Club in England that will interest him as a Manager and money won’t be the driving factor behind it.
Liverpool are his boyhood team and thanks to his father he followed them as a child from afar.
I think timing is everything in Football and the fact Klopp has recently said he has no plans to Leave Liverpool in the short term is going to over see the next phase of transition at Liverpool before he calls it a day.
They are clearly in a transitional period losing the likes of Mane and Firmino at the end of this Season.
Liverpool will already be thinking of his long term replacement and it wouldn’t surprise me if Postecoglou is in their thinking.
A couple more solid showings with Celtic in the Champions League would put Ange in a very good position I think.

You desperate to get rid of him as well

      • Duncan says:

How you drew that conclusion from what I posted is beyond me?
I clearly said Klopp has no intention of leaving Liverpool in the immediate future but rather will oversee the evolution from the current squad to the next.
I also brought up the fact Ange will need to prove himself in the Champions League at Celtic before a move to Liverpool was possible.
I also stated that money won’t be the main motivation for when he does EVENTUALLY leave.
I think we are looking at 2/3 Seasons from now.
Being realistic about Ange and his desire to prove himself at the top level isn’t wishing him out of the door Johnny.
If you think he’s at Celtic for the 10 or retirement I think you are deluded.
Enjoy him while it lasts as I know I will.
He’s been a breath of fresh air into what is a stale environment in Scotland.
I don’t foresee him shinning down a drain pipe in the middle of the night in mid February halfway through a Season.

  • George Murray says:

That is just mischief making by someone who is supposed to be positively inclined towards the Celtic ?

Editor: Everything he publishes has a clear purpose.

  • Johnny mcglinchey says:

Were do these fuckin wankers get this shite from, they must pray to fuck every night that everyone leaves paradise and let the retards win everything. HH

    • Duncan says:

You seem a bit triggered by the mere thought that Ange could one day leave Celtic?
Face it Johnny Ange didn’t arrive a Celtic fan claiming to have been at the birth of Tommy Burns weans.
Ange will always be linked with a move because Ange is successful.
That’s how it works in Football.
Why don’t you try having a rational conversation about it rather than foaming at the mouth ?

      • the maister says:

Tommy Burns? Show some respect, will you! What are you rabbling at?
You hope Ange will leave Celtic in two years – just to prove you are right!
Jimmy McGrory refused to leave Celtic. You just don’t understand, do you?
Like McGowan, you feel you have to justify your existence by saying something!
I think it a load of bull … from both you and Stephen McGowan!

        • Duncan says:

That was a reference to “Lifelong Celtic supporter” Brendan Rodgers supposed relationship with Tommy (which McGrain more or less dismissed as made up nonsense) seeing as he left the Club mid Season to go chase his dream at the mighty Leicester City.
Ange isn’t that type and would I think be at Celtic as long as he sees it as a challenge.
The downside to that of course is having already won a double and now chasing a record breaking treble his sights will be set on proving himself on the European stage.
If he manages that then of course the likelihood of a Liverpool (his own boyhood team) come knocking will increase.
I’ve no wish to see Ange leave all I have done is offer an opinion based on known facts.
The fact some take umbrage to that is not really a concern.

          • the maister says:

You or anybody else doesn’t know the exact reason Brendan Rodgers left Celtic. Only he knows why and he was perfectly entitled to do so.
Listen to the next pre-match interview with Ange and clearly he isn’t thinking of going anywhere.
So where do you and McGowan get all this from?

          • Duncan says:

Now apply that same logic you use for Brendan (a self proclaimed life long supporter of Celtic and best pal of Tommy Burns ) and now apply it to Ange.
There was no signs Brendan was for the off.
He simply eff’d off at the first opportunity.

Here are some more facts about Ange you might want to consider.
            His Managerial Career so far:

            1996–2000 South Melbourne (4 Years)
            2000–2005 Australia U17 (5 Years)
            2000–2007 Australia U20 (7years)
            2008 Panachaiki (1 year)
            2009 Whittlesea Zebras (Short term)
            2009–2012 Brisbane Roar (3 Years)
            2012–2013 Melbourne Victory (1 Year )
            2013–2017 Australia. (4 Years)
            2018–2021 Yokohama F. Marinos (3 Years)
            2021– ….. Celtic

The fact and it is a fact Ange has not signed a long term Contract with Celtic might be something or it may well be nothing but at no point has he intimidated he is here for the long term all he has done is drop cryptic clues that he may be at Celtic longer than the media are suggesting.
Now you can take that two ways?
He is here for the long term and the length of contract is irrelevant or he’s here until a better move presents itself- as Brendan evidently did when he disappeared out the fire exit in the middle of the night without saying goodbye to his players.

There will always be speculation about a Manager like Ange because like Brendan Ange has been a success so far domestically but as I pointed out earlier should he also be a success in the Champions League the likelihood of an approach will also increase with it.
All I have done is attempt to rationalise this and offer up a theory that money will not be the driving force in any decision he makes because I believe with him Football comes first not monetary gains although obviously it is a major factor in any decision in life.

You can choose to put your fingers in your ears and stamp yer feet like a wean in the sweetie isle at Woolies or alternatively you can enjoy the moment for however long it lasts and accept that like anything else in life it won’t last forever.
I’ve tried the former as a juvenile and as an adult choose the latter as it makes for a far more enjoyable experience all round.
Whatever floats yer boat sweet cheeks.

  • Sean McGinley says:

Let’s spoil the Fenians party ! What timing !
As it says, utter “speculation” . There’s absolutely no foundation to these kind of stories and are only designed to get clicks and annoy us. But they forget we are not the gullibles.

  • Sean McGinley says:

    Let’s spoil the Fenian’s party !
As it says , absolute “speculation” !!! They want to upset Celts and get clicks at same time.
But we are not the gullibles.

  • John Copeland says:

As if by timed magic ,the Daily Mail in Scotland has ran another tale about Ange Postecoglou on the eve of Celtic’s game against the Edinburgh version of the Rangers ! Any neutral looking in would be forgiven for thinking that the English based right wing tabloid had an agenda against Celtic FC ! Rather than focus on Ange’s brilliance ,scoop Stephen MC Gowan has decided to stir the soup and type up a story of such piffle that would put the daily Record to shame ….Look out for more tales of woe down Parkhead way from obedient lapdog hacks all Summer long !

  • Jack says:

I don’t think Stephen McGowan had much time for celtic till he became a frequent in the Internet punter and knew no want wants to read about hearts and his other teams I don’t know where he getting his inside info’s I think its inside his head he not even an aussie he’s a kwi a sheep man

  • John S says:

The priority is the board should offer Mr. Postecoglou a new contract he is happy with. This should have been done months ago. Perhaps it was, maybe there’s been discussions, who knows ? Not the fans, neither the media.

    • Duncan says:

Correct John but what we do know for a fact is he has up to this point not signed a long term contract at Celtic.
What will be ill be and no amount of speculation will alter that.
Having a rational conversation about it won’t change a thing either but unfortunately some folk seem incapable of having one of those.
Without rational conversation all Social is or becomes is an echoe chamber.
