The myth over the Trongate Party clear up

The sights and sounds of thousands of Celtic fans celebrating around Glasgow Cross and the Trongate on Saturday brought about some very predictable reactions.

Sure there was some litter, broken glass and other side effects but nothing that would shock anyone familiar with the city centre early on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

Those that are shocked and outraged have very selective memories.

Two years ago while Glasgow was in Tier 4 Lockdown conditions thousands gathered twice in George Square to put the Police and Ambulance services under additional pressure.

Memorial benches were trashed, historic statues damaged with Police Officers and horses injured. Strangely only social media covered the incidents, despite BBC Scotland, STV, Radio Clyde and Sky News having city centre offices no mainstream video coverage emerged.

A couple of well placed skips would have collected much of the litter, much more anti-social events take place with the support of Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland every Saturday through the summer months.
