The Scott Bain mystery deepens

There is still no clarity over Scott Bain signing a new three year contract.

Late on Thursday night Stephen McGowan broke the news in the Daily Mail, it wasn’t a case of being about to sign or poised to renew but a case of ‘has put pen to paper’.

When McGowan writes about Celtic transfers or contracts you know that it comes from the most reliable of sources.

The Celtic website has nothing on the story, strangely at today’s media conference no-one asked John Kennedy about the keeper’s contract situation.

Late on Thursday the Daily Mail reported:

CELTIC goalkeeper Scott Bain has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

Understudy to Joe Hart, the 31-year-old was under contract at Parkhead until next summer.

Bain was tipped to leave the club after the signing of Benjamin Siegrist last summer, but the Swiss keeper has endured a difficult first season with injuries.

Now the three-times-capped Scotland keeper has done enough to convince Ange Postecoglou he deserves a new deal.

Bain appears to have replaced Ben Siegrist as Joe Hart’s understudy, picking up a fine medal collection since his move from Dundee in 2018.

Kennedy would have held a separate conference call with the Daily newspapers, almost certainly they would have asked about Bain with news expected at 10.30pm tonight.

Scott Bain is a very good ‘keeper, as is Siegrist. Any problem with Joe Hart and Celtic are well covered.
