Peter Lawwell is absolutely delighted by the return of Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager.

In February 2019 the Irishman left to join Leicester City with Celtic picking up £9m in compensation as Neil Lennon came in as caretaker before getting the job on a permanent basis.

Rodgers took Leicester into fifth place in successive seasons in the EPL then guided them to their first ever FA Cup success in 2021.

While Ange Postecoglou drove Celtic into a fresh cycle of success investment stalled at Leicester with Rodgers leaving at the start of April with the club relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season.

After stepping down as CEO Lawwell took over as Celtic chairman in January, today he told the Celtic website how thrilled he is to have Rodgers back in the dug-out.

Through the process of identifying the new Celtic manager, it was clear that Brendan was the outstanding choice and we are absolutely delighted that we have appointed him on a long-term contract.

We wanted a proven winner and that’s what Brendan is, and myself and everyone else at the club look forward to working with him again to continue to drive Celtic forward.

He is someone who knows the club so well and has experience of the huge challenges at Celtic, domestically and in Europe. Brendan is well aware of what it takes to succeed in this role and we know he is delighted to be back with us.

Brendan is a top-quality Manager. He has delivered before for Celtic and we are sure through his many qualities, he will do so again.

Rodgers has signed a three year contract with John Kennedy, Gavin Strachan and Harry Kewell all remaining in the backroom staff.

    Absolutely delighted? Aye RIGHT!

  • TicToc says:

GREAT NEWS. Hunskelper’s back and I’m over the moon.
    Hail! Hail! The Glasgow Celtic.

  • Captain Swing says:

What else is he going to say? “I am devastated we’ve had to bring this egotistical charlatan back, but what can you do? That Italian bloke I wanted is away to fucking Leicester of all places. He might have been shite though, Christ knows he did the square root of fuck-all at Parma. I doubt we would have got away with another cheapo option, and maybe you’re better with the devil you know, anyway if it all goes tits-up again, I’ll just give wee Neil a bell. It’s not like he’ll be doing much else. At least the mug punters won’t be singing that bloody Terry Munro chant anymore”.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Should Nicholson not be announcing this – or is Pete just trying to get back in and curry favour with Brendan and the support…

Anyway- Welcome back Brendan and continue to slay The Huns and give us a treble and while we’ve overtaken The deceased Rangers once again in the silverware – get that treble please and overtake the ‘truth’ of the combined total of The deceased Rangers and their bastard child the differet new club (not newco) !

    • Bob (original) says:

      Exactly.

The Chairman should announce the appointment of a new CEO or Directors.

The CEO announces the appointment of senior operational staff – including the Football Manager.

Nicholson should be front and centre.

I can’t wait for the expression of delight coming from Lawwell when Brendan Rodgers spends £20 million on 4 or 5 quality players to make our mark in Europe once again ! The amount of companies and businesses desperate to be associated with success at Celtic FC who want to give the club money or sponsorship ,shall pay for the European offensive outlay . I believe we are already seeing the Golden Age of Celtic FC mark 2 already underway …. Unfortunately we are already witnessing the same Golden Age of Snide Reporting by the SMSM scoops …. You ain’t seen nothing yet – on both events !

  • Scud Missile says:

Let the good times begin, sevco’s bottle has just crashed again.
They had a thread up on FF about who our next manager would be sitting back laughing with all sort of names being branded about.
The thread has gone now that we have sunbed Sam back in charge and the PANIC button has been pressed at ibrox,no more laughing from the klan now only FEAR.
It looks like the middle of a doughnut trophy time season at ibrox.

  • TicToc says:

From the minute Ange left and the main candidates to replace him seemed to be Brendan, Enzo Maresca and Knutsen from Bodo Glimt, I just wanted Brendan back. Aye, the way he left was not good but it’s fairly well known that Lawwell (the twat) had a hand in it.
Just one wee uncomfortable observation though. I’d read somewhere, somewhere I had some trust in which rules out the BBC, SKY and the SMSM, that Brendan was coming back and he had a 5 year plan. If so, why has the contract he’s signed for 3 years?
Probably it makes sense to those ‘in the know’ but I’m pretty sure 2.5 plus 2.5 = 5 (not 3)
    Ach well, time will tell!

  • Jack says:

They wont be seeing each other hes the chairman and hes the manager just at meetings 4 times a year or something so not a problem but fir some reason had to say it
